My friend and colleague, Dr. Devinder Mangat, emigrated to the United States in 1966 from Kenya and rose to national and international acclaim as a world leader in facial cosmetic surgery. A master surgeon, educator, author, fellowship director, President, and Board Member of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Mangat established the premier cosmetic surgery practice in his hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio by providing cutting-edge surgical technique and staying on the forefront of the exploding growth in surgical and non-surgical plastic surgery.
After falling in love with the Vail Valley and the "mountain lifestyle", he had a vision that the Vail Valley deserved access to the same state-of-the-art cosmetic surgery, usually only available in a major city.
In 1994, Dr. Mangat opened Mangat Plastic Surgery in Edwards, Colorado as a satellite office to his Cincinnati practice. Commuting monthly, the practice and his reputation grew as the mountain community expanded. One week a month became two as word spread that you didn't have to travel to a major city to receive the latest in facial plastic surgery. Over time, Dr. Mangat dedicated more time to his Vail practice and eventually, Vail became his primary practice.
I met Dr. Mangat in 2017 at Pepi's in Vail Village and over an apres beer, he changed the course of my life with one sentence. We knew of each other, having trained the same residents in the past. I told him of my recent purchase of a home in Edwards and my plan to relocate here in the future once I retired from my practice in Philadelphia. He told me, "Don't do that... do what I did."
With a handshake agreement, Mangat Plastic Surgery and Skin Care became Mangat Copit Plastic Surgery and Skin Care, expanding the scope of the practice to include all facets of plastic surgery for the face and body.
We moved to Avon, Colorado in 2019, expanding our facility to include a private surgery center with two fully equipped state-of-the-art operating rooms. As the practice grew, like Dr. Mangat, my one week a month became two, until 2022 when we both began practicing full-time in the Vail Valley.
Dr. Mangat has become my most trusted friend and our partnership has been a dream come true.
In June of 2024, Dr. Mangat will be retiring after 46 years in the field of facial plastic surgery. Blessed with good health and a close-knit, loving family, he now has time to dedicate to his many passions of family, skiing, biking, hiking, travel, cooking, and golf. You will see him around town, on the slopes, or on the golf course. Stop him to say hello!
Dr. Mangat's passion for plastic surgery and relentless attention to detail have set the standard for Mangat Copit Plastic Surgery and Skin Care. Our entire staff loves living here, loves what we do, and are dedicated to giving our patients the best possible experience and results.
I consider it an honor and privilege to carry on his legacy. Our name will remain Mangat Copit Plastic Surgery and Skin Care as a tribute to our founder as we continue to provide world-class facial and body cosmetic surgical and nonsurgical care and expand our practice to the Vail Valley and mountain communities.
