What is the facelift procedure?

Your facelift in Breckenridge will be performed with intravenous sedation and local anesthesia, and typically requires about two to three hours to complete. In a traditional facelift, the incision begins at the temples in the hairline, continuing down around the front of the ears to the lower face and behind the ears. An additional incision may be needed, hidden beneath the chin. The procedure involves elevating the skin and tightening the underlying muscles and tissue, including redistributing facial fat. When the facial recontouring is complete, the skin is redraped, excess skin is removed, and the incisions are meticulously closed. If there is volume loss in the face, fat transplants can be performed at the same time, ensuring a natural-looking result.

What is recovery like after a facelift?

After a facelift, your incisions will be covered with gentle pressure bandages to help reduce swelling and bruising. During the first few days of your recovery, you will need to rest, with your head elevated for three days, using a comfortable cooling mask to minimize swelling and bruising, and control discomfort. Any additional pain can be managed with medication. The sutures will be removed approximately one week after surgery.

TISSEEL is a surgical tissue “glue” made from natural materials that help stop bleeding and seal tissues. TISSEEL is made of two substances naturally found in the human body, fibrinogen, and thrombin. TISSEEL is applied as a liquid to coat the area under the skin that the doctor has corrected. It sets within seconds to form a natural fibrin clot or “patch” over the wound. In time, the fibrin clot is naturally absorbed, and your own tissue heals underneath the fibrin clot. With the use of TISSEEL, the healing process can be dramatically shortened, and bruising is minimized.
